ALICIA ROWBOTHAM

Born in 1996

Alicia Rowbotham is multidisciplinary textile designer, researcher and artist based in London with a focus on artisanal luxury textiles and objects for contemporary interiors. With a First-class honours degree from Central Saint Martins and a Clothworkers Company award, Alicia went on to start her bespoke design studio in 2020, working exclusively with private clients for the interior design industry. Her latest works all feature surplus factory silk, brushed and threaded into striped compositions through the process of yarn wrapping.

Alicia Rowbotham studio collections combine the techniques of established traditional textile methods such as hand weaving, passementerie and embroidery as well as leather and metal work in contemporary design for bespoke works as seen in Elle Decoration, Collect International Art Fair, Crafts magazine, and Forbes. Alicia has been commended for her material innovation within her practice. She is also the founder of Flock London, which hosts bespoke creative workshops and curated events from leading artists in beautiful locations.

“The materials I work with - often called pre-consumer waste - include materials that have been dyed incorrectly or the ends of warps from industrial looms. I began building relationships with textile mills across the country, collecting surplus silk, wool, and other high-quality materials that would otherwise go to waste. Ultimately, I want my pieces to invite reflection on how we interact with materials, how they shape our spaces, and how we can approach them with greater intention." ALICIA ROWBOTHAM
